📚 What you’ll learn
Diagrams in the round are read much like row diagrams, but follow a circular path. Right-handers usually read counter-clockwise; left-handers follow the same stitch order but work in the opposite direction to get the correct orientation.

📋 Instructions
- Watch the videos to learn where each round begins and the direction your stitches should flow.
- Locate the stitch symbols in the diagram so you know which stitches you’ll be working.
- Follow the diagram through a few rounds, paying attention to where each round starts and how it connects to the next.
- Read the diagram counterclockwise unless the pattern specifically tells you otherwise.
🔑 Key tips
- Use your knowledge of stitch symbols and connections from row diagrams—you’re applying the same principles in the round.
- Watch for transition points between rounds and take your time.
- Finger tracing or using a stitch marker can help you track your place.
- Left-handed crocheters read diagrams in the same direction as right-handed crocheters, but when they work the stitches, the fabric is created in a clockwise direction.
🏋️ Practice
Using the diagram attached in the lesson:
- Trace the stitches with your finger, saying the stitch names and placement out loud (e.g., “3 dc in the next st,” “2 hdc in the next st”).
- Repeat with different diagrams to build confidence and fluency.
🎯 Goal
You can easily read a diagram in the round and understand the stitches and their placement.
