📋 Instructions
- Insert your hook into the next stitch.
- Yarn over hook (YOH).
- Pull the yarn through both loops on your hook in one motion. The slip stitch is complete. It should look like a small, flat stitch that hugs your fabric closely.
🔑 Key tips
- Keep your tension loose — tight slip stitches can pull and distort your fabric.
- The slip stitch adds no height, making it perfect for joining rounds, finishing edges, or moving across stitches invisibly.
- When working slip stitches across a row, try not to tug; let the yarn glide naturally through the loops.
🏋️ Practice
- Work a row of 10–12 slip stitches across the edge of a previous swatch.
- Then try joining two small swatches together:
- Hold the swatches with their edges aligned.
- Insert your hook through both layers at once (the matching stitches on each piece).
- Yarn over and pull through both layers and the loop on your hook to complete the slip stitch.
- Notice how this creates a flat, secure seam without bulk.
🎯 Goal
You can confidently make consistent slip stitches with even tension, use them to join or finish projects neatly, and recognize their appearance in your crochet fabric and diagrams.
