Edging (Adding Borders)
Edging (Adding Borders)

Edging (Adding Borders)

📚 What you’ll learn

How to finish your crochet projects with neat, even edges using borders. Borders (or edgings) give your pieces a polished look, stabilize the fabric, and add decorative flair. You’ll practice choosing border styles, counting stitches, and maintaining consistent tension around corners and edges.

📋 Instructions

  1. Choose a stitch for your border: single crochet (sc) or slip stitch (sl st).
  2. Insert your hook into the first stitch of the edge.
  3. Work the chosen stitch evenly around all four sides of your piece.
  4. At corners, work 3 stitches (or your chosen pattern) into the corner stitch to allow smooth turning.
  5. Join the last stitch to the first with a slip stitch.
  6. Weave in all yarn ends neatly using a yarn needle.

🔑 Key tips

  • Keep tension consistent: too tight will pucker, too loose will look sloppy.
  • Use stitch markers in corners to guide smooth turns.
  • Count stitches along edges to avoid adding or skipping stitches accidentally.
  • Scroll through the photos to explore additional decorative border techniques.
