📋 Instructions

Align Your Pieces

  1. Place the right sides of your fabric together.
  2. Line up the horizontal rows by pinning or counting to ensure even alignment.
  3. Match the vertical stitch ends, stitch by stitch.
  4. Position your working yarn at the back and on the right side (left side if you are left-handed).

Attach Your Yarn

  1. If not already attached, make a slip knot and place it on your hook.

Begin Slip Stitch Seam

  1. Insert your hook through both loops of the first stitch on the front piece and the corresponding stitch on the back piece.
  2. Yarn over and pull through all loops on the hook to complete a slip stitch.

Continue Across the Row

  1. Repeat the slip stitch for each pair of aligned stitches until you reach the end of the row.

Finish the Seam

  1. Fasten off your yarn and weave in the tails neatly.
  2. Your seam should lie flat and be mostly invisible on the right side of the fabric.

🔑 Key tips

  • Keep your stitches even but not too tight; gently pulling after a few inches helps the seam lie flat.
  • Always align horizontal rows and vertical stitch ends before you start sewing to avoid puckering or uneven seams.
  • Experiment with a few seam styles on swatches to see the effect:
    • Whip stitch (invisible, works through back loops with a tapestry needle)
    • Mattress stitch (great for vertical joins)
    • Single crochet seam (decorative and sturdy)

🏋️ Practice

  • Take two small crochet swatches and align them right sides together.
  • Pin or count rows to ensure even horizontal alignment.
  • Use the slip stitch seam to join the two pieces along one edge, following the step-by-step instructions.
  • Focus on keeping stitches even, pulling the yarn gently for a flat seam, and weaving in ends neatly.

🎯 Goal

You can confidently use the slip stitch seam to join two pieces of crochet fabric. Seams are even, flat, and mostly invisible from the right side. You understand how alignment and consistent stitch tension affect the final look of your project.
